100 Questions for Lolitas

stylish lolita Naomi found and subsequently translated these on her web site [link] & additional translation was added by another well-dressed lolita, Nef! [link]
I thought I'd give them a go myself -- thank you to both for your efforts !!

1 Please tell us your Name, Birthday and Where You're From.
Ivy/Eli (or Webmaster Miss Destroying Angel Amanita xoxoxo), birthday 28/08 (same as Goethe!) & I am from Poland

2 What is your Height, Weight, Clothes Size and Shoe Size?
161.5cm; 47/48kg; I don't know sizes!; UK 4/4.5

3 Why did you start wearing Lolita Fashion?
I got the Fruits book in around 2009 (?) & was obsessed with what I didn't even know was called 'lolita' - a year or two later, I had seen Kamikaze Girls and fell in love with the fashion.
It feels like a lifetime ago!

4 What's your favourite genre(style) of Lolita?
Old classic that was just on the verge of gothic is wonderful. Simple, bold, avant garde... gaudy...

5 Express in your own words, the ideal of your above answer.
The ideal is a gaudy, hateful divorcee.
A real horrible hateful woman, too good for anyone else; overly plucked eyebrows; a harsh look of a Biblical Angel... cold, distant... lots of texture is a must; structured garments and bold silhouettes.
Very, very minimal makeup. Minimal accessories. Every piece stands on its own & has its own story... no 'filler' pieces.

6 Do you have any piercings, and if so how many?
I used to have a labret, ear piercings & briefly a tongue piercing, but nothing now...

7 What is your favourite brand?
Victorian maiden all the way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

8 What is your favourite piece of clothing?
I think the Victorian Maiden Gobelin Short Length Coat (2001) due to how much it adds to a look on its own -- also my Jean Paul Gaultier silk jacquard bag from A/W 1998... my best find to date - spacious AND stunning

9 How many Lolita friends do you have?
Three, with very different styles; and I would love to know more -- and some closer to home, so we could meet!

10 What is the best thing about being a Lolita?
Seeing my reflection in such a dreary, ugly, horrid, tasteless world... knowing such flashy and elaborate pieces exist to make life more colourful and interesting.

11 On the contrary, what is the worst?
As many others have said... people out in the world having a major issue with your clothing choices & making sure you know, lmao!

12 What magazine(s) do you read?
I only have the one GLB (vol. 18) -- I mostly collect Visual Kei magazines, like old editions of SHOXX, Vicious, FOOL's MATE... and then the special edition ones, like CLiCK File and so on...
I would love an Olive or Cutie from the early 90s for some hair & styling inspiration!

13 Headdresses v Bonnets v Ribbons (Headbands)?
Small, narrow and flat headdresses, absolutely.

14 Do you wear bloomers?

15 Do you tie your headress in the front or the back?
I cross the ribbons behind my neck and then bring it to tie in the front, sort of a 'choker' effect, I suppose.

16 Do you have a favourite music genre or band?
I think I'm quite open minded, I'm not sure! As of writing this (early 2023), I'm really into 70s Hard Rock... check out my Essential Listening page for a little window into my taste!

17 What is your phone ringtone?
Phone is always on silent - who knows!

18 Do you go to lives/concerts in Lolita?
I detest the idea of going to a concert!

19 For those that go to lives/concerts, do you headbang?
Not applicable...

20 What colours do you like?
What I would call a 'bronze age' palette -- brown, gold, bronze, ivory, ecru, copper, vivid serpentine green, rich burgundy and blood red, and then of course, deep black...

21 What are your hobbies?
Reading (usually nonfiction), art, writing, making this web site, going out alone, finding more odd films to watch & music to listen to, and collecting pictures of La'Mule

22 What is your favourite perfume?
Coco Mademoiselle by Chanel... absolutely incredible, my signature scent! I adore Allure by Chanel too, and of course, Gucci Rush...

23 Being a Lolita, is there anything you are careful of?
The wind blowing your skirt up & perverts

24 Where do you usually hang out?
My horrid town... sadly! The library has become a wonderful refuge as of late.

25 How many times do you wear lolita a week?
Usually I will wear one of my pieces every other time I go out. In warmer times, I wear it quite a lot, almost every time I leave the house.
I only really avoid wearing it if it's particularly windy. I can't wait to get a very long dress to circumvent this...

26 Please tell us an embarrassing story you are guilty of from your early days of wearing lolita
My very first piece was the Angelic Pretty Romantic Serenade OP (2010) in pink
I got it from Closet Child in 2014... I decided to wear it with disgusting shiny plain lavender tights and black Bodyline heels (which were too big) X

27 What is your hairstyle and hair colour now?
Dark brown & shoulder length at the moment... I'm waiting until it grows out, then I want blonde highlights to brighten up my dark blonde natural colour.

28 How long is your lolita history?
While I got my first piece in 2014, I don't count that as a real start. In November (?) of 2023, it'll be 5 years of regularly wearing it.

29 Do you have a dedicated place for storing lolita?
I just use my one wardrobe & set of drawers. I say to myself: if it doesn't fit here, I have too much!

30 Up to now have you ever thought about quitting lolita?
Not seriously! When I'm upset, I think I look horribly ugly and disgusting and say all sorts of dramatic things... I really have no real intention of quitting anytime soon.

31 What is your motto?

32 What is your future dream?
Nothing! I live in the present!

33 Is there any celebrity you think "This person definitely suits Lolita!"?
I want to see Nina Hagen in gaudy old old old Juliette et Justine xoxoxo

34 Please tell us about an item that is full of memories
My Metamorphose Blouse with Cape (2000) & Camisole and Skirt Set (2001) were what I wore to my first meet.
I had a horrible month, felt awful, couldn't speak and I left early to listen to La'Mule and cry on the bus home. It's honestly kind of iconic, now that I think about it!

35 What is the very first item you got?
Angelic Pretty Romantic Serenade OP (2010) in pink
I still have a soft spot for very simple, princessy, non-printed sweet. What a wonderful dress!

36 When having your photo taken, do you have a pose you always do?
Not really! I only take pictures to edit and play with later... I don't have straightforward outfit pictures taken.

37 What is your bible? (Book, Magazine, CD etc)
La'Mule Inspire VHS
and TECHGNOSIS by Erik Davis... iconic book!

38 What is the height of the tallest shoes you wear?
My very ita Unif platforms are 12.7cm, and are incredible.

39 Have you ever worn a tiara?
Yes! I have a teeny tiny one from Emily Temple Cute

40 Occassionaly do you want to try Ouji?
No thank you!!!

41 What kind of lace do you like?
Eyelet lace is wonderful, but the thickest crochet lace is a must.

42 Do you have dolls? If you do please tell us about her!
Of course... on the left are the lovely ladies I share my house in England with: Helge, Nancy, the two tiny babies, Starlight Yoshiki (1993) & Greta
On the right are the four dolls I grew up with in Poland... I still don't know their names. How sad!
One day I would love that one iconic Victorian Maiden in her coffin with her wonderful ringlet twintails...

43 What's inside your Lolita bag?
Lip gloss, lip balm, my little pocket mirror, keys, tissues, my wonderful burgundry Jean Paul Gaultier leather wallet that has been through hell and back, a small book to read, a pen, Moitie leather gloves, a spare mask...

44 What's your favourite flower?
Lily, Chrysanthemum, Orchid and I adore those gorgeous rich dark purple Camellias...

45 What is your favourite accessory right now?
This extremely gaudy Vivienne Westwood necklace I scored for a great price on Closet Child!

46 What is your favourite or recommended cosmetics?
My staple, sunscreen: I am obsessed lately with the NUXE "Melting Sun Lotion High Protection SPF50 face and body" which makes my face glow in a partifularly gorgeous way.
I also adore the Etude House Dear Darling Lip Tint in #RD302 Dracula Red... I put this on before applying rich red lipstick, how delicious and vampiric!

47 Big and beautiful eyes are the proof of a doll! So, do you wear false eyelashes? Also if you have any tips for application please tell us.
My eyes are quite big on their own, so false eyelashes tend to weigh them down & make them appear smaller.
However, if I do, I tend to cut up lashes to apply on the edges to widen the eyes - always use tweezers & I've found the DUO QUICK-SET Striplash Adhesive to work quite well!
Applying lashes on very round, deep set eyes is a nightmare and I tend to skip it unless I'm doing an 'artistic' look...

48 Please tell us your eye make up fixation.
I put on a bit of mascara and nude shadow to cover up the veins around the eye and call it a day!

49 Is your lipstick red? Blue? Black? Pink?
Most delicious pinkish sweet vampire red, of course! I am obsessed with lipliner too - I NEVER overline, though! It makes me look like a clown, lmao...

50 What colour do you use often for your manicures?
Generally clear, but black, red and dark purple or midnight blue sometimes.

51 Have you ever stealthily changed into your clothes in a train (or public) toilet?
I've taken off my big petticoat in a public restroom & put it in a big canvas shopping bag before walking home, lmao!

52 Have you ever done a twinning coord? A triplet coord? What are your thoughts?
No & I don't see myself doing one, I don't think!

53 What do you do to keep your figure? Any reccommendations?
What a funny question! I eat when I'm hungry, I would recommend this to anyone, LOL

54 Wearing lolita alone. Are you okay with it?
It is natural to me, it's lovely, it's like being in your own world.

55 How much do you spend a month on clothes and accessories?
It's so rare that I actually find something I want... I detest hoarding and I love having minimal clutter.
Most months I don't buy anything, and simply set aside money for when I see something that makes me excited.

56 Was there a considerable time difference between when you found out about Lolita and when you started wearing it?
2009 I saw Lolitas in Fruits and it was 5 years until I got my first 'real' brand piece (I had tried to DIY with charity shop finds before that... tragic, but brave)
It was in 2018 that I began being serious - 9 years!

57 What is the most expensive thing you've bought up to now?
I think it must be my Jean Paul Gaultier bag... I think... and it wasn't so expensive, in the grand scheme of things. I'm so, so stingy, really!

58 Lolita is really expensive. How to get money for it?
A lady never tells!

59 Just between the two of us, generally how much have you spent on Lolita altogether up until now?
It must be less than the average Lolita... while I like to have everything be brand & in good condition, I'm not into new releases and I prefer the thrill of a bargain over dropping a lot on one thing.

60 What shop do you want close to you?
If only I could experience a time slip & have a portal to Victorian Maiden in 2000 in my town...

61 Just between the two of us, are there are any shops you think are a total ripoff?
Certainly Moitie, especially lately... Angelic Pretty lost its very unique, elaborate & charming approach to sweet in my opinion.
I also got a Marble piece once, and I was shocked as to how low the quality was.

62 Do you use online shops? If you have what are the good and bad points about it? If you haven't, please tell us why.
I love online shopping! It's sort of exciting to wait for it. I don't have many issues with sizing, so as long as I buy things with waist ties or tight corset lacing, I'm good.
I've developed a skill for hunting down listings with awful pictures that turn out to be in extremely good condition.

63 Is there a secret person/shop that you have ordered a dress solely for you from?
I haven't, but I would love to have a dress custom made! I'm so picky with the fit of things & always seem to find issues...

64 I definitely won't get it! But I really really want it! Do you have a certain something from a certain brand that you want?
I feel like most of my dream items are unlikely but lately I've become obsessed with Baby's Elizabeth OP in the all-black velveteen colourway. I don't see it in my future, but a girl can dream!

65 What do you do wih pieces you get bored of?
I became 'bored' of oldschool sweet, but I suppose it's more of the fact it didn't suit me. I realise pieces that are soft, with full shirring, higher waists and less tructure with prints do not, at all, suit me.

66 What is the last thing you bought (even outside of Lolita)?
This insane 1950s burgundy handbag that is the toughest leather I have EVER touched...

67 Is there something you'll probably never have it again, but you can't forget about?
I sold my Moi-même-Moitié Velveteen Rosenkreuz Print Mini Skirt (2005) in grey, due to how it hung in an awkward spot below my waist and looked sloppy...
I'll never forget it since I scored it for $40 on Closet Child... lmao! Whoever I sold it to got a great deal & I hope she loves it!

68 What do you think of people that wear lolita only to lives/concerts?
I certainly don't get the idea of keeping clothing for a specific occasion... I quite enjoy being overdressed & think clothes are meant to be worn, enjoyed, used.
I suppose it's their own business though, isn't it? Nothing to do with me! Do what you want!

69 What do you think of people that don't wear makeup with lolita fashion?
I love it, I love seeing people's unique faces.

70 There's a Lolita wearing the same coord as you! What do you think?
That really would be a sight to behold! Let's get married.

71 From what age until what age do you think is forgivable to wear Lolita?
For others, it's not my business. I really only am bothered by perverts wearing it, age isn't a factor in whether I think it's 'acceptable' to wear it.
I feel like my pieces are overall quite interesting and auntie-like, I can't wait to wear them for many years to come.

72 In what situation do you think you would have to stop wearing Lolita?
If I didn't want to, simple.

73 Do you have any "Stop doing this!" warnings?
Stop leaving clothes unwashed!

74 Do you have any thoughts about what a Lolita should be like?
Confident in their own style and choices, confident to experiment and confident to look old-fashioned, or ita, or whatever. Confident in their taste.
And, of course, I think a lolita should only wear good quality clothes. I think the crux of the fashion is the choice of fabrics, construction & value of labour. Slow fashion...

75 Excluding Q.73, is there anything you don't want a Lolita to do?
Be too afraid to look ita.

76 What do you think of boys wearing Lolita?
Their own business, as long as it's for normal reasons, lol!

77 Since wearing Lolita has anything about changed from before?
I understand my body shape and what suits me a lot better.

78 What do the people around you say about you wearing Lolita?
Not much, honestly! It's not that odd, I've always tried to dress like a rich divorcee or a haunted ebay doll.

79 In the midsummer heat what kind of Lolita do you wear?
Camisoles, bustiers, short skirts... nice and simple. I need more bustiers for this Climate Change situation!

80 Do you wear Lolita to school/your workplace?
I wore my Mary Magdalene velveteen pencil skirt non stop at my old job so... if I'm allowed, I sure will!

81 What are your regular style of clothes?
I mix lolita into my 'regular' clothes, so I wouldn't say I have a 'regular' style ... I have punk pieces, goth pieces, vintage pieces, masculine pieces, feminine pieces... I'm really into Betty's Blue lately!

82 Are you opposed to second hand clothing?
How could I be!!!!?? Hunting for deals is one of life's little pleasures.

83 Do you have a partner? And do they understand Lolita?
I'm a spinster queen, and will always be

84 Please tell us the image of your ideal guy
If only he wore a military uniform... I can't stand men who talk a lot & are over 168cm. You wouldn't get it...

85 Is there a Lolita that has left a big impression on you?
These two in this streetsnap really did change my life. For real... 14 years ago!

86 Have you ever made your own clothes? If so what kind?
I've made some clothing in Textiles & Fashion classes in school... I made a jacket, skirt, coat... something else... a dress... I love embroidery, too!

87 Have you ever made your own accessories? If so what?
I've made two headdresses but I can't seem to get them exactly how I like them, sad!

88 Is there an item you've made that you think "It's a great success!"?
Not yet...

89 If you have an ideal coord, please talk about it.
Victorian Maiden Cross Gobelin Cape (2000) & Juliette et Justine Gobelin Set with my wonderful JPG bag I don't stop talking about & the big Unif platforms.
I think it would be so gaudy and horrendous! I hope one day to somehow manage this ...

90 Is there someone you admire? What kind of person are they?
My mother is extremely funny & her fixation on revenge and films about revenge is so inspiring. When I'm down, I think about her saying the word "revenge". The spirit of vengeance keeps me warm!

91 For one day you can go on a date with that special persion. They will also be wearing their favourite clothes. So who is it, what are you wearing and where is the date?
I don't think my special person exists, or if they do, I doubt I'll meet them!
For a date with myself, the object of my desire, I would wear my Jane Marple '01 Autumn OP with the huge Metamorphose heels, and I would... sit in the middle of nowhere, in the countryside, listening to the wind.
How atmospheric!

92 If you could open a shop in the future, what kind would it be?
I would love to sell antiques.

93 Unconsciously, this catches your eye! Which motif is it?
Florals, always...

94 Would you also want your child(ren) to wear Lolita?
I would have one daughter and dress her in Shirley Temple!!

95 How much do you spend on each piece of clothing?
As I said, I'm quite stingy overall, I think... if I've seen something cheaper before, I won't buy it, even if I have the money on hand!

96 This is a Lolita! If you think there's a gesture like that please tell us.
Carrying a sewing kit or a clothes brush in the purse...

97 Even if it's only one time I wanna wear it! Is there something you want to wear other than Lolita?
I'd love to wear a full latex outfit one day!

98 Looking at your Lolita, if you could use one word to represent it, what would it be?

99 What is your image of an ideal Lolita?
Elegant, but loud. Confident, with a powerful presence.

100 大変お疲れ様でした! Please share your thoughts on taking this questionnaire.
I really am so inspired to wear it more!
